It is still a very lame move, gives black choices, he can block with
Ng6 and while you are figuring that out he can take the free Bishop.

The Queen is pinned to the King. Of course Freddy always creates these situations with the staging. Often the opposition is soooooo out numbered to make the puzzle laughable.

I still stand by my solution, forces Black to make THE move,

Whoops the Rook is pinned by the Bishop, Sorry I guess it was a good move, but still not bloody enough for young readers.

Stephen, do you edit the solutions that Fred Gammage handed out?

You have stopped listing the entire solution, which leads one to believe you sometimes do not know the complete answer. Not all your readers are supposed grand masters like yourself. Quite a few of your readers could be grade school students just beginning to learn the game. Try to keep this in mind.

Now lets see about today's puzzle. Your hint is Qf4. Yeah, no pizzaz, no blood and guts, very lame.

A better move would have been BxR check, forceful, decisive, no way out of the pinch. Black can only respond by RxB as the Knight is pinned. QxR checkmate - two moves, complete.

What does Qf4 do? It could lead to a White RxN mate, but before that can happen Black can just take the Queen!

Qf4 leaves the Queen out in the open. IT'S FREE!

Please do a better job with the puzzles, it is one of the things I do on Sunday morning - Chess, KenKen, Sodoku, then the Jumble. You are ruining my Sunday mornings!

I have been meaning to write to you for weeks. Months!
